Easy Card Tricks – The Needle In a Haystack Card Trick |
There are many articles on doing easy card tricks, I won’t bore anyone with an introduction but instead give you the first of a series of easy card tricks – these can be learned in minutes and mastered in hours, this means you’ll be able to do them anytime, anywhere and with full confidence.
You will not need anything except a deck of cards and the motivation to excel. By the way, some people will try to convince you that you need special equipment or things like 101 tuition. This is simply not true and the most interesting and reliable card tricks are the ones that are easy, have a quick payoff and can be done with a minimum of preparation and props (like using you friend’s deck of cards at a party).
And another thing, how can people say these are easy card tricks if you need to watch videos, and buy props and books to understand them. So, the first of the easy card tricks that I am going to show to you is called:

The Needle In A haystack Card Trick
!!! don’t just read, grab a pack of cards and follow along, if you don’t you’re likely to just read the trick and then forget it – doing this easy card trick even once will move it into a special part of your memory and you may find yourself in a suitable situation and just saying: “Hey, let me show you guys something”
1. Borrow a deck of cards; note the card on top of the deck and remove the three other cards that have the same number. ex: on the top of the deck is the 7 of spades, you remove the other three 7’s and place them in front of three participating audience members.
2. Have the three participants choose between the three 7’s. They are to choose a card, look at it without anyone else seeing it, and then place it on the table in front of them.
3. Tell the first participant to choose a number between 1 and 10. From the top of the deck you then deal that many cards, face down, one at a time, and then put them back on top. Don’t try to understand, follow the steps and you’ll get it when you reach the end of the card trick. ex: the guy says 4 so you deal out 4 cards, then put them back on top of the deck (the 7 of spades is now the 4th card from the top).
4. Tell the second person to say a number between 11 and 20; let’s say he says 12. You deal out 12 cards, one at a time, face down, from the top of the deck. You then take these and put them back on top of the card pack (the 7 is now the 9th card from the top).
5. You ask the last person for the difference between the first and second spectators number. In this case: “Now friend_name, what is the difference between 12 and 4”. He will say 8, and you deal out 8 cards, one at a time, face down, from the top of the deck. The ninth card will be the 7 of spades, the original top card.
6. You ask each of the participants which one of their cards they think matches the unrevealed ninth card: “So, friend name, do you think your card matches this one here”
7. You turn over the ninth card and, surprise, all their cards match this one. In this example this is because they all have 7’s.
8. Practice your showmanship.
From the audiences perspective it will look like this: You, taking a borrowed deck and removing three cards, then three participants choosing between any of the three. The first participant offers a number and is dealt than number of cards. The second one offers a number and is dealt that number of cards. The third is asked the difference between the first and second and is dealt that number of cards. One more card is dealt and placed on the table.
To everyone’s surprise as each of the three participants cards is turned over it matches the one placed on the table. There you have it, the first in a series of easy card tricks you can perform anywhere you’ve got a deck.
TIPS: You can perform this card trick for just two people, simply take the third card and place it back in the pack after the two participants have each chosen a card – same for one person. When you shuffle through the cards at the start of the card trick you can pretend it’s because you want to take out the jokers. You can spread out the cards on the table at the start of this easy card trick so that you can see the top card without it appearing suspicious. If you like this trick feel free to contribute with extra tips and variations.
All the magical best,
Damian
